What is BSMA and who can join?

The British Somali Medical Association (BSMA) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting Somali doctors and medical students in the UK and fostering collaboration within the British Somali Healthcare community. The BSMA aims to inspire, mentor, and empower its members while promoting healthcare initiatives that benefit both the Somali community and society at large.

Full Membership is currently only open to Somali medical professionals and students based in the UK. Associate Membership is open to Somali doctors and medical students based abroad and British Somali allied healthcare professionals such as dentists, pharmacists, and nurses.

How does BSMA support its members?

BSMA supports its members through professional development, mentorship programs, networking events, and advocacy for Somali healthcare professionals. We also promote community health initiatives, research collaborations, and offer peer support to enhance career growth and wellbeing.

Can non-medical professionals contribute to BSMA?

Yes, non-medical professionals can support BSMA by volunteering, offering expertise in areas like IT or event management, or donating to our Charity Foundation, the British Somali Medical Foundation (BMSF, Charity Number 1194268), to help fund our not-for-profit Community initiatives. Anyone who shares our mission is welcome to contribute.
