BSMA Scholars Programme

Widening Participation in Medicine - Mentorship Programme

The BSMA Scholars Programme, launched in the 2021/22 cycle, is a free, 12-month initiative designed to inspire and support British Somali and other Black African/Caribbean students applying to UK medical schools. Since its inception, the programme has already supported over 20 Scholars in securing places at medical schools across the UK.

What We Offer Scholars

Monthly Educational Sessions: Intense, interactive online sessions covering every essential aspect of the UK medical school application process, from personal statements to interview preparation.
1-to-1 Mentoring: Each scholar is paired with a dedicated mentor—an experienced Somali doctor or medical student—who provides personalized guidance and support throughout the year.

Applications are open during the summer, and successful candidates will gain the tools, insights, and mentorship needed to confidently navigate the medical school application process.
